NSW flood grants

Grants for people whose primary place of residence has been destroyed or made uninhabitable as a result of the March 2021 floods in NSW.

Red Cross has a Flood Grant for people whose primary place of residence has been destroyed or made uninhabitable by the NSW Floods that took place from March 2021.

The grant consists of a $1,000 payment per household that may contribute towards rent or temporary accommodation due to people being unable to return to their primary place of residence, and to meet basic, urgent needs, such as food, clothes, bedding or personal items.

Before you start your application

Please have the following ready:

  • a document that can confirm the address of your flood-affected primary place of residence, such as a utility bill
  • a form of photo ID that can confirm your identity, such as a driver's licence or passport
  • your bank details.

You will also be asked to declare that your home has been destroyed or made uninhabitable by the floods.

We may require a secondary document that confirms your primary place of residence if your ID does not confirm that you live at the affected property.

Applications for the emergency grant opened on Thursday 15 April 2021. The grants will remain open until all available funds are exhausted, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Application assessments will be made as quickly as possible as applications are received. If applicants meet the eligibility criteria, the information provided in the application is correct and funds are available, payments will be made directly to their bank account.

Please note we are experiencing a large number of applications and we apologise for any delays. We will do our best to support you throughout the process to make it as easy as possible.
